Great day in Donaghadee. Well organised racing. The rain largely held off for the racing, the wind was not severe and there was a gentle swell. Another trophy has been added to the collection - Kevin, Tyrone, Anna and Caroline with Rory coxing triumphed in the gruelling 3.5km Copelands Challenge, leading from the start with second-placed Portaferry being 27 seconds behind at the finish. The mixed ability/experience team of Linda, Rebecca, Erin and Beth, again with Rory coxing put up a fine performance, particularly since this was their first experience of racing for most of the crew. Isabel coxed Strangfjǫrðr with a female crew made up of Rebecca (who must be made of strong stuff to row in two races) with rowers from Dundrum and Donaghadee. The over 50 sprint team of Claire, James, Bob (Brown) and Martin coxed by Isabel felt very strong and were powering along in second place coming up to the first mark. As it was rounded, one of the other skiffs collided with us putting us into last (5th) place. The crew responded mightily and we were able to finish in 4th place. More drama was to follow for the male sprint team of David, Brendan, Derek and Philip with James coxing when a further skiff collided with us once more displacing us into last (6th) place. Once more the crew rose to the occasion and gave it their all and we finished 5th. Despite this, the day was enjoyed by all and Donaghadee's hospitality was wonderful.
