The Narrows Challenges

The fast flowing waters of the Narrows, offer a unique challenge for experienced rowers and paddlers, made all the more attractive by the renowned hospitality, lovely heritage villages and fabulous scenery.  These attractions combined with sheltered bays where even novices can have a go are great for local people and for visitors.

Our boats may soon be entering competitions elsewhere and Strangford Lough may even host a future St Ayles’ Skiff World Championship!

Narrows Challenges 2014

The first Narrows Challenges were held on 5th October 2014.  Six of the St Ayles’ skiffs took part and Killyleagh won the carved skiff trophy presented by the Strangford Lough and Lecale Partnership. Strong winds and novice rowers dictated that all of the races were held across Castle Ward Bay.

The intention is to hold annual Narrows Challenges which will include the SLLP Trophy for local boats but will also develop international challenges for the most experienced rowers.
